I am an independent writer and editor based in Toronto with 20 years of experience as a communications professional and a Master’s degree in English. I specialize in the preparation of meeting and conference reports. I also have considerable experience as a writer and editor of communications materials.
My approach is simple: I work with you directly to build a relationship tailored to your unique requirements. For larger projects, I work in partnership with colleagues and small firms to provide a full range of services — including conference reports for events large and small, across Canada and internationally.

Biography
I began my career in 1991 working in communications for a social services organization in Edmonton, Alberta. After moving to Ottawa in 1994, I worked on staff for several years as a writer, editor and project manager at a firm specializing in the production of conference proceedings and newsletters. I managed overnight publishing services for large-scale national and international conferences, travelling across Canada to train notetakers and writers as members of conference publishing teams.
In 1999 I started my own business as a freelance writer and editor and diversified my services. In addition to producing conference and meeting reports, I have researched and written brochures, articles, information sheets, project summaries and promotional copy.
As an editor, I have copy edited research reports and books published by organizations such as the North-South Institute and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). I have also reworked and rewritten major reports, guidebooks and planning documents.
I moved to Toronto in 2010 and I now work in both Toronto and Ottawa, occasionally travelling elsewhere to take notes at meetings.
My formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Toronto (1992), a Master’s degree in English from Queen’s University (1994) and completion of the Editors’ Association of Canada Scholarly Editing Seminar (2001).

Where there is a translation or design requirement, I collaborate with trusted colleagues to provide you with a complete, polished publication.

Editing
Good editing requires objectivity, experience and deep respect for the nuances of the writing. I tailor my approach to the specific requirements for each project, always respecting the author’s work. I take special care with politically and culturally sensitive material and have expertise as an editor of scholarly and specialized documents.
I offer stylistic and substantive editing, copy editing or simple proofreading. If you have an in-house style guide, I will meet its requirements. I have experience with everything from scholarly books to plain language information materials. My goal is always to ensure clarity and readability, regardless of the complexity of the material.
